Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a technique which involves the placement of needles into specific acupuncture points in the body. It is used in order to affect painful tissues, nerves and allow the body to promote natural healing. Acupuncture can be used with or without electrical stimulation for a variety of conditions including, low back pain, migraines/headaches, arthritis, rotator cuff injuries and many more. Electrical acupuncture occurs when the needles are hooked up to electrical stimulation in order to enhance the affects of the needles.
What is the difference between Traditional and Medical Acupuncture?
Dr. Reid has been trained in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture at the University of McMaster University, which varies from Traditional Chinese Acupuncture by the theory and use of specific acupuncture points for different conditions. Originally acupuncture was apart of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an empirically established medical system with more than 2500 years of existence. Western Medical contemporary acupuncture is the adopted form of acupuncture which has been incorporated into western medical health practices. It combines the use of traditional acupuncture points with clinical information and the knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and how it works. Medical acupuncture is particularly good at decreasing pain, relaxing tight musculature and improving nerve function.
