Rehabilitative Exercise
What is Rehabilitative Exercise?
All injuries happen for a reason, but are usually a result of either improper movement patterns, or a force applied to the body which overloads the stabilizing muscle, ligaments and/or joints. The pain, tightness and swelling that occurs as a result can be treated by a chiropractor with a wide range of therapies/modalities. However, if the movement pattern and/or strength are not corrected, it only leaves the body susceptible to further injury or reoccurrence.
Rehabilitative exercises are aimed to strengthen and improve the function of muscles. Once a patient is beginning to have fewer symptoms of their injury, the doctor should begin implementing patient specific exercises which deal with the patients specific needs. As a result muscles and joints become stronger, and the chances of further injury and pain becomes less.

The Bird-dog
A very common exercise given to those patients with low back pain and weak core musculature is the bird-dog. It helps strengthen the stabilizers of the low back, upper back/shoulder and the hip extensors.
